Social Networking = Apes Grooming
Great article in the Economist suggests that there is a limit to how many ‘friends’ we can maintain - it’s a brain thing. And really all that social networking is the digital equivalent of grooming one another. Click pic for link.
More than 150’s Wasted
Facebook’s in-house socialogist (?, really?) shares some usage figures that seem to support the Dunbar number theories - that humans can only accommodate ~150 ‘friends’ and we only regularly communicate with a dozen or so. Interesting stats. Click pic for link.
The Trough of No Value
This is the period when things are no longer new and they aren’t yet collectible.
“All your image are belong to us.”
This is how we experience meaningful events today - with the flicker of LCD screens. Rather than brining us closer it actually places a filtering device between us and the event. Is this to prove to friends that we were actually there? Would they not beleive us if we don’t have a photo? Are we timeshifitng the event to review it more carefully later - with a crappy low res blurry picture? What’s going on here?
Great Copy in Strange Places
“Plump juicy morsels in stay fresh exoskeletetons!” This is some great copy - and an interesting business. Selling live crickets to feed your pet lizard/snake/creature. Three bucks gets you 25-30 of the little fellows. Punch a hole in the box and drop it in. The box side copy says, “The classic cricket experience… crunchy outside, soft and chewy inside.” They have a great web site too. Click the pic for link.

NY Times is reporting that 8020 Publishing is shutting down. Just couldn’t make it work in this supertough economy and additional funds not forthcoming. Does that mean the new crowdsource paradigm is not sustainable? Or just not in this perfect storm? Click pic for link to article.
Retro Ironic T-Shirts from Microsoft? Really?
You sure? So if the software thing doesn’t work out they can fall back on some t-shirt business? It is a fine line between laughing at you and laughing with you and everyone on this one is keeping a straight face. Probably the only shirts in the world that have a EULA.
